Great Job Shawna/Hillarie! 5/1/2008 - Michelle PYou guys are doing great, especially considering the sabotage on your last website. Glad to see Krissy didn't get you guys down! Unbelievable that she won't release your domain name. Five bucks says she does the same thing to CBER within months. Canada's mental health program needs some help.

Keep up the hard work 5/23/2008 - Anthie MonahanJust sending out a thank you. My husband and I have been doing rescue and foster work for the past 4 years now. This winter alone we took in 7 surrendered horses, just locally here in Clark/Cowlitz County. It is really great to see more people getting together to make life better for these beautiful animals. However, alot more still needs to be done to educate the public on what it takes to care for these animals. I know that with more and more people like yourselves getting involved, we will stop this insanity some day. Keep up the hard work. God Bless

Fantastic Horse 7/20/2008 - TashaI just wanted to write in about Herbie. When I adopted him I was quite skeptical about him based on my experiences with other groups. However Herbie is everything that was written and so much more. This little horse is truly amazing and is such a rare treasure. Thank you so much SOS for being there when he needed you and giving him this chance.

newsletter 11/25/2008 - Whitney AI have received my weekly , "the Horse.com, Horse Health E-Newsletter" for 3 years now. I was so glad to see the "Matchmaking: Adoptable Horse" section was on a wonderful organization here in Yakima. Of course it kills me to look at all of the adoptable ones because I want one so bad! I'm currently working and in college and I know buying a horse right now wouldn't be fair to the horse due to my schedule. It makes me very happy to know there are local people who care about these abandoned horses.

shipped? 11/26/2008 - LoriI was looking in your "memory" section of past horses. And some were listed as shipped, and one had been shipped to slaughter. Yet your web page at the top clearly reads "Save Our Slaughterbound Equines" I'm not being nasty, I'm just curious as to why you shipped these horses. If they were not suitable for adoption would it not be more humane to put them down instead? The impression this leaves me with is you are throwing them back into the fire without a second thought. Also do you have any permanent horses residing on your farm? Couldn't these horses not suitable for adoption be permanent residents providing they have no health issues? I know the cost of keeping a horse as I have had my own now for over 25 years (in my back yard) Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks Lori

Slim or Hank or... 12/6/2008 - Erin StoryHi, I don't mean to be a pest (I'm the one who lives in West Richland) but if you ever have a need for an extra helping hand to spend time with your horses like, Slim or Hank (I could clean a stall too) or any other kind hearted, gentle horse that you feel would benefit from having an additional human spend time with one of your horses please don't hesitate to contact me. I am currently leasing a pony for my daughter (who's 5) but due to not currently having any place to put a horse for myself I'm left without a horse to love. :-) Anyway, I know you have to be careful with who you allow to help you out but if it is any consolation, I am also a teacher for the Richland School district. I've had horses in my teens so I'm not a complete newbie, I'm just not up for training any of the younger horses. You seem to have a fabulous program. Anyway, I'll quit babling and if I don't hear from you I will quite pestering all together. Thanks again and best of wishes with all of those sweet horses.

wow! 3/30/2009 - PaigeI loved all of your horses and I was interested in 4 of your horses but then I learned you where to far away for me and even if I did come to get the horses it'd be torture for them to come back and dangerous with ice on our roads. It makes me so sad too.
|
Thanks! 5/6/2009 - NikhaylaHi,
My name is Nikhayla and I just want to say thank you for what you are doing to save these horses! Just because some ignorant human doesn't want a horse doesn't mean that the horse isn't amazing! All of these gorgeous horses deserve amazing homes and I wish all of them luck in getting homes! I hope to someday adopt one of the horses at SOS Equines!
Thanks,
Nikhayla

SOS does not ship horses to slaughter 5/18/2009 - DebbieThere's been some misunderstanding regarding horses marked "shipped" in the Past Horses section. SOS did NOT ship the horses. They were shipped by the feedlot owner before SOS could help them. Their pictures are posted so that people will not forget them and we can continue fighting against horse slaugther.

Horses 6/1/2009 - ShellyThis horse thing is overwhelming. I help with small animal rescue in our area and have had the pleasure of some equines too. Try networking with other rescues, even if it is out of state and see if your local newspaper will do an ad on a weekly basis (for free) and list a photo of one horse with some knowledge of it. You will be surprised the reaction it will draw. Find a paper that covers a "vast" area. Here we have a small paper that covers several states and I get a large response. Good luck!

Love my senior horses! Thank you SOS 10/29/2009 - kelly All of my rescue horses are seniors & that was MY choice! I won't adopt a younger horse, because I want them to be slow & safe to be around & not out-live me. Thank you SOS, for allowing me that opportunity to chose the horses that suits me best.
I will choose a senior horse very time!!

seniors 12/26/2009 - LoriI was looking thru your available horses and to myelf was wondering "who sends all these lovely old horses to auction?' And then I saw the comment made in the guest book and had to respond.
There are many people who seek out older horses knowing there chances are more limited. Maybe they have the space for a non-useable horse. Or maybe they have come to appreciate the training and experience the seniors have. When I needed a "spare" horse for when my main ride loses a shoe, I sought out a 21 year old feed lot TB. Took four mths to get him sound but what is the rush? He is a lovely old gentleman who was obviously "someone" at some point. He is now foxhunting. Our other adopted senior was an ancient pony dropped off by the amish to be shot and disposed of at New Holland. he is fat and sassy now and living the life he should.
A boarder of mine apologized recently that she had not beenout to see her old pony. She said she was a bad "mom". I told her there is not a true horseman in the world that would not respect her for making sure her old guy has a safe place to live even though she cannot get to see him very often.
We lost two of our seniors last year-one a 33 yr old TB and on a 27 yr old QH. We had them only about four years and the 27 yr old foxhunted (and pulled the whold way) the day before he died. Try the seniors-too many people want a young horse and an older horse would have been the perfect choice.
Shame on the people dumping the seniors after a lifetime of service. L

Lucy the mare. 1/18/2010 - Shannon LackJust made $25.00 donation please apply toward Lucy bail. seen on FB from One Horse at a Time. I will also cross post to get more funds generated.

shelly's post 2/3/2010 - ericka smithI think she is right. The Spokane News Paper is a popular one. In the classifides there are always ads for horses for sale, st stud and animals that are in rescue and in need of homes.
It would help SOS out very much if you were to contact the Spokane Paper and ask for a spot in the classified section to place an add about the horses you rescue.
it would help with placing horses in homes faster and with the right people!

samson 3/4/2010 - tracy johnstonHey Ms Shawna, just wanted to say hello and let you know that Mr. Samson is fat & happy here in Portland! Hope all is well with you and SOS and I am so glad that I got Samson from you. I love him so much and he makes me happy every single day! Thanks again! Tracy&Samson

Good For You 4/29/2010 - Becky BlanksI would like to respond to an old post shaming your organization for placing older horses. At age 10 I learned to ride on a 20-year-old mare who could have gone to slaughter but a Real Cowboy said "No." Why? Because he knew she would make a great babysitter for a beginner. I enjoyed many miles in her company and never regretted for a moment that I took in an older horse. I would like to adopt a horse, but I'm in Louisiana and it just wouldn't compute to ship one that far. Keep up the good work and God Bless!

Income requirements 5/7/2010 - HumaneDoes SOS ensure that the "rescue" animals are going to homes that can afford to feed them? What are the adoption requirements? We have rescued three of your "rescued" horses from a couple in Oregon. This couple did not have the means to support themselves let alone horses. In addition, two of the horses were sick. What kind of organization are you?
|
WRONG 5/7/2010 - played darts lately??SOS has never adopted 3 horses to any couple in oregon. They do however take back any horse that an adopter can no longer keep for whatever reason. They also are still supporting 2 horses that you tried to backdoor at the davenport sale. You could become a millionaire and will never be approved by this organization. Also we gave all of your information to the humane society since you keep trying to act like you represent them & they are not very happy with your game playing or lying about being part of there group..I think you should go back to playing Darts

application status 5/25/2010 - VictoriaI filled out an application online lastnight and was wondering if you recieved it. I'm hoping to make a trip to Kennewick soon so I can find a horse that will be a match with me. Please let me know if I'm accepted or not. Thanks, Victoria

Can we see the horses in person 5/27/2010 - BobbiSorry I sent an email too. We want to visit your ranch, is it possible to get the address or phone number? We are looking for a horse for our family by July. Thanks
Bobbi

Address 5/31/2010 - SherriHi your mission is a good one. We would like to donate some money, but what to send it by physical mail to ensure it is a real charity. Do you have a physical address? God Bless

Senior Horses 6/24/2010 - SaraI also feel I have to respond to the adoption of senior horses. Anyone who is a true horse lover knows that age has nothing to do with it. The experience, knowledge, and patience that they give and teach to us is beyond value. I relate adopting a senior horse to hospice care for humans-there might not be alot of time left, but they are able to live it with dignity, respect, and compassion. All living things deserve this.
|
Adoption 8/7/2010 - Heather SchullerMy husband and I adopted 2 older mares from SOS recently. I can not begin to tell you how wonderful they are!!! "Mitzie and Lucy Lou" are both in their teens with the "been there, done that" personality. If anyone is looking for a opportunity to provide a home for a deserving older horse, PLEASE contact SOS. We are glad we did.
